PHCBA demands passing of Lawyer Protection Act

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHC BA) urged government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to pass Law Protection Act and grant licenses of Kalashnikov to lawyers, on Monday.

This was demanded by PHCBA president Behlol Khattak Advocate in his press statement after killing of senior lawyer Bashir-u-Rehman Advocate in Bannu by unknown culprits.

PHCBA president Behlol Khattak demanded that now provincial government took the issue seriously because such incidents are reporting on regular basis.
PHCBA president said that issues regarding Lawyer Protection Act and provision of licenses for Kalashnikov to lawyers are pending before provincial government. He added that killing of lawyers are continue in front of courts which has created doubts regarding security of life among lawyer community.

PHBA president condemned murderer of senior lawyer Bashir Barki and urged police and provincial government to ensure arrest of culprits as soon as possible. PHCBA president Behlol Advocate warned that if such incidents of violence are continued against lawyers then they will call national convention for establishing new procedure to addressed their grievances.

PHCBA president requested lawyers to set-aside their differences and join hands for the collective cause of security of life for lawyers.

PHCBA president also condemned violence committing against journalists on regular basis. He added that passing of lawyer protection act is need of the hour because such incidents are depriving young lawyers from the profession.
