Pirzada for healthy activities in schools

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada has said that schools are nurseries of sports from where the sports are developed at grass root level and eventually the players are groomed and sports flourished.

Riaz Pirzada was addressing as Chief Guest the Annual Sports Day & P.T Display of ST. Helen’s Convent High School, Rawalpindi at Jinnah Stadium, Sports Complex, Islamabad on Saturday.

He said that the government is keen that sports should be promoted in schools and large sporting activities should be organized so that the talented athletes may be hunted and groomed.

We understand that the schools especially private sector schools lack sporting facilities like playing fields, grounds and equipments; however Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad is making all efforts to provide grounds, playing fields and equipments to to the educational institutions to organize sports competitions. We do not want that students may deprive from the playing facilities, the Federal Minister said.

He said Pakistan Sports Board is always ready to help the educational institutions to organize their sporting activities and sports competitions in Pakistan Sports Complex.

Pakistan Sports Board periodically organizes Inter-Board Sports Tournaments in which handsome cash awards are given to the medal winning students which proves that government is keen to promote sports in educational institutions, he said.

Riaz Pirzada noted that sports activities are not extracurricular activities rather these are co-curricular activities with the objective to achieve educational objectives. Annual Sports should be regular feature of the schools, he added.

At the end, the Federal Minister congratulated and appreciated the School management for organizing this Annual Sports Day in befitting manner.
