PM briefed on current situation in Karachi after heavy rains

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired on Sunday a session on the situation in Karachi after heavy rainfall, which led to flash floods across the city.

The PM was briefed about the damage that occurred due to the rainfall and measures taken to curb it.

Sindh government must be provided with all the facilities in this regard, Abbasi said, adding that all help must be extended for the people of Karachi. “All facilities must be utilised to provide relief to ordinary citizens,” he added.

At least 13 people, including four children, died after Karachi was battered with heavy rainfall on Thursday which saw Army contingents being deployed to assist in rescue efforts.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had taken notice of the rain emergency in Karachi. He had instructed the Army, Rangers, National Highway Authorities among others to take adequate measures and play an active role in rescue work.

“All possible efforts must be made for rescue activities,” Abbasi had remarked.

The premier also issued instructions to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Karachi Port Trust and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to help with relief and rescue activities.
