PM Narendra Modi’s biopic to be released on April 11

Monitoring Desk

MUMBAI: The biopic based on PM Narendra Modi’s life has been removed from the programming schedules of Friday April 5. This has happened two days after Bombay High Court disposed of a PIL, filed by a Pune resident Satish Gaikwad, to stay the release of the Vivek Oberoi starrer, PM Narendra Modi. The film has been tentatively postponed for a week.

The film is directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sandeep Ssingh. According to reports, the makers are now aiming for an April 11 release. However, there is uncertainty over the final release date. Apparently, the Election Commission is conflicted over the alleged promotional content of the film as the first phase of Lok Sabha polls is scheduled for April 11. It is so far, a subject of debate.  The film came under the ECI scanner after the opposition complained to the poll body. It said that the film violates the Model Code Of Conduct. Vivek Oberoi, who plays Modi in the film, asserted that the film isn’t a part of any propaganda. He also said that it is an inspirational story and not funded by anyone. He shared that proper documentation has been submitted stating the same. The film is produced by Suresh Oberoi, Vivek’s father.    On the other hand, Gaikwad’s lawyer, Tosif Shaikh, informed a leading daily that they have filed a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court stating further that their contention is that the ECI is acting in collusion and not taking action. The committee has issued a notice to the film’s team only after they filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. They have approached the Supreme Court to seek a stay on releasing the movie during the election period.
