PML-N is falling apart, says Shafqat Mehmood

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Leader Shafqat Mehmood on Saturday said that the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) is falling apart.

“There isn’t a lot of difference between the politics of [former prime minister] Nawaz Sharif and [Chief Minister of Punjab] Shahbaz Sharif,” Mehmood said, adding that the ‘Noora’ power wrestle continues between the senior leadership of PML-N.

“Riaz Pirzada has shown lack of trust on Nawaz’s leadership,” the PTI leader said. “The federal government is being led by PML-N but Punjab is ruled by Shahbaz.”He added that a visible change can be observed in the behaviour of many PML-N leaders. Rumours about a tussle between the ruling party’s senior leadership are abuzz, amid controversial statements made by the party’s ministers.

In what appeared to be a sign of revolt against the PML-N leadership, Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Thursday had suggested that Nawaz should step down as the party president until he comes out of all the problems. He had proposed that Shahbaz would be the best choice to lead the party.

“It will be better for the PML-N if Shahbaz takes over as the party president until Nawaz comes out of the problems,” he said. He said that there will be a vacuum in the party if Shahbaz is not made the president, adding that the Punjab CM’s advice to the party should be accepted, as he knows how to better deal with the public opinion.

Pirzada questioned if the present form of democracy would continue in which politicians continue to follow their leaders irrespective of what they do.
