Police arrest two accused in journalist murder case

SWABI: District police have arrested two accused out of four who were allegedly involved in killing of local journalists Haroon Khan on October 12 in front of his house when he was returning home in district headquarter.
Haroon was a correspondent for Waqt News TV, Akhbar-i-Khaiber, Peshawar and Peshawar-based Channel, Mashriq TV. Swabi DPS Izhar Shah told media on Tuesday that soon after the incident Inspector-General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and DIG Mardan directed district police officer, Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf and called for arresting the killers.
A committee was constituted led by Mr Azhar and its members started investigation of the incident, studying all aspects of the incident to reach the bottom line and share same with media. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan had also claimed that they had targeted Mr Haroon because he was linked with the secret agencies.
DPO Sohaib said after the Taliban claim that they investigated both aspects: the Taliban claim and family feud over a piece of land. In reply to a question, he said that earlier three people Muhammad Ali, his sons Hamad Khan and Jawad Khan were mentioned in FIR registered in city police station by Manzoor Khan, brother of the deceased but later the name of Fawad Khan, third son of Mr Ali has also been included. Mr Ali, Haroon’s brother had a feud on a precious piece of land in district headquarter.
The police have arrested Fawad from his house in the district headquarter and Jawad from their house in Peshawar. However, Mr Azhar said that Jawad was taken in custody by joint investigation team (JIT) and has been taken to Mardan where its members wanted to investigate him while Fawad has remained in detention of the district police. In reply to a question, he said that Mr Ali and Hawad would also be arrested very soon and they continued raids at different place pinpoint by the two arrested people.
