Police foils underage marriage bid in Shirkarpur

SHIKARPUR: Despite having many laws against underage marriage but traditional practice of marrying underage girls’ is still continue in Sindh and especially rural areas of Northern Sindh such an attempt to marry of an underage girl was foiled by Napar-Kot Police in Shikarpur district and recovered a 10-year-old bride and arrested 45-years old groom rivirine area of Khanpur, approximately 50 kilometers off from here, on Thursday afternoon.

Imtiaz Khuhawar, the Station House Officer, told this scribe that after following information with respect to marry of an underage girl aged around 10 years at village Mahro Marri police immediately raided at village and succeeded in arresting groom named Soomaar Soomro aged around 45 years, resident of village Younis abad next to Shikarpur, and recovered a-10-year old girl named Malookan by caste Shaikh daughter of Hanif Shaikh and shifted the victim girl to women complaint cell Shikarpur and accused has been kept under police custody, SHO informed.

Arrested groom Soomaar Soomro said at police station that I have paid amounting 2,50,000 for marriage with girl while Nikah ceremony and payment had paid four years back and today were there to get bride after traditional rituals.

Underage bride continuously keep weeping at police complain center while the grandmother of victim bride avoid talking with journalists.
