Police kill nearly 14000 militants this solar year: MoI

KABUL: Police killed about 13, 600 militants, wounded 5, 900 and captured alive another 2, 100 in 5,500 joint and independent raids during the outgoing year, the Ministry of Interior said.

In these raids, police defused 4, 200 landmines, captured 18, 00 different types of weapons, 131 vehicles and 172 walkie-talkies and detained 27, 000 people, said MoI spokesman Najib Danish.

He told reporters here that during the period police had detained nine suicide bombers before reaching their targets. In connection with 15500 crime incidents nationwide during the year, police detained 22,000 people with another 3000 cases being investigated.

Of the total crime incidents, 3100 happened in Kabul, said Danish, who added during the year the MoI investigation department had detained 170 graft-tainted officers and introduced them to the attorneys. “These officials include four generals, 98 officers, 52 sergeants and the remaining are civil servants at the ministry,” Danish said.

Police also confiscated 300 tones of drugs in more than 2700 operations and detained 3100 people in connection with the seizures.

Those detained in connection with drugs included 50 women and eight foreigners. During the year, police destroyed 50 drug labs and 12 depots and confiscated 217 weapons and 478 vehicles.
