PESHAWAR: Speaking up for their rights become a crime for the teachers community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as police in provincial capital registered a First Information Report (FIR) against over 15 government school teachers for staging protest in favor of their demands.
A day earlier hundreds of Secondary School Teachers (SST) took out a huge demonstration protest from Government Higher Secondary School No.1 Peshawar city. The protesters reached Khyber Road in front of Judicial Complex after marching and blocking different roads to traffic for long hours.
They also staged a sit-in on Khyber Road by blocking one of the city’s main flows of traffic and put the provincial capital into the worst gridlock.
They were holding banners and placards inscribe with slogans in favor of their demands.
The SST cadre in the teacher community, who had come from across the province, protest against the government for not upgrading their basic pay scale from 16 to 17.
Teacher’s community was of the opinion that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had unanimously passed a resolution in 2015 in favor of their scale up gradation.
The teachers ended their protest after holding successful negotiation with the high-ups of education department. However, the provincial police after a day booked over 15 SST teachers in a FIR on the charges of using abusive language against the provincial government and violating Coronavirus SOPs.
