TIMERGARA: A police head constable was killed while three other cops were injured when their mobile van was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) at BeyariLajbok area in the jurisdiction of Balambat police station here on Wednesday.
The Lower Dir district police officer ArifShahbazWazir told that a police team of Lajbok post was on its way to Timergara when the IED exploded near it at Beyari with a big bang. As a result a police head constable Saifullah was martyred and three constables identified as Suhail Ahmad, Ijaz Khan and van driver Tariq were injured in the blast. The injured were brought to district head quarter hospital Timergara where their condition is stated to be out of danger.
A heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area and started search for the accused.
The regional police officer Malakand division Muhammad Ijaz Khan along with DPO ArifShahbazWazir visited the emergency of DHQ hospital and inquired about the condition of the injured cops. The RPO directed the hospital management to provide the injured constables with better health care facilities.
Later the funeral prayer of the martyred Saifullah was held at the Timergara police line. The RPO Ijaz Khan, DPO ArifShahbazWazir, SP investigation ArbabShafiullah Khan, SDPOs, SHOs and police officials were present.
The Lower Dir was included in the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the banned Tehrek Taliban Pakistan had taken control of some areas in 2009. The militants were flushed out after a military offensive in 2009 and 2010. Peace was restored in the district after military operation. The Pakistan army handed over the administrative powers to the civil authorities in April last year.
The last IED blast in Lower Dir was reported in June 7, 2018 when a police mobile van was targeted at ZaimdaraMaidan in which the SHO along with his driver was killed while two constables were injured. In Aug, 2017 four persons of a family were injured in a roadside blast at Mirakay area of Lower Dir when an IED hit the vehicle in the limits of ZaimdaraMaidan police station.
