Polio case surfaces in Zabul’s Arghandab district
QALAT (Pajhwok): The first polio case in southern Zabul province and sixth in Afghanistan during the current year has surfaced in Arghandab district, an official said on Thursday. Public Health Director Dr. Lal M. Tokhi told Pajhwok Afghan News a four years old boy tested positive for polio despite being administered the required vaccine.
A delegation from Kandahar is investigating the case. He promised a special vaccination campaign would be conducted in Arghandab in the near future. According to the Public Health Ministry, most of polio cases have surfaced in southern provinces in recent years.
Earlier, two cases were discovered in Kandahar, two in Helmand and one in Kunduz province. With the latest incident, the number of polio cases in the country this year has reached six.
