Polio workers in Peshawar feel insecure

PESHAWAR: After the firing incident on polio workers in Momand Agency, Polio workers in Peshawar and across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa feel unprotected and demands extra security measures from the government.

Yesterday in Momand Agency a polio monitoring team was under attack from militants groups in which two polio workers were died on the spot while three were abducted by the miscreants in the attack which were later release by the security forces.

A polio worker on the condition to be not mention his name said that they were vaccinating children against polio in Peshawar as still catch up campaign is carry on in different areas of Peshawar and across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He further said that in catch up campaign there was no security provided by the government to the polio workers,   adding that after the incident happened in Momand Agency not only he himself feel unsecure but as well as other polio workers were also unsecure.

Meanwhile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has tightened security measures and different police teams were deported for search operation in different areas of Peshawar and across the province.

An official of the Polio Emergency Operation Centre Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while talking to The Frontier Post said that routine immunization of polio as well as catch up campaign of Polio is in full swing across KP as polio workers were going door to door for polio campaign to vaccinate children.

He further said that the provincial governments were providing security to the polio team across the province, adding that in catch up areas where there is threat the police squad is available with the polio team.

Meanwhile on social media a large number of people appreciate the sacrifices of polio workers martyred in Momand incident and demanded the federal and political administration to announce package for the aggrieved family.
