Pollution caused by factories: High Court orders EPA to submit progress report

PESHAWAR: A two members bench comprising of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Musart Hilali and Justice Waqar Ahmad annoyed pollution caused by Marble and Checkboard factories in Peshawar while ordered Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to submit progress till 29th June, on Tuesday.

During hearing Additional Advocate General Mubashir Manzoor and Deputy Director EPA Mumtaz Ali appeared before court while informed that assessment of factory in Hayatabad has been made while the valuation of others continued on routine basis and requested for time for submission of detail report.

However, Chief Justice inquired regarding number factories? Informed that five factories are operating in Hayatabad Industrial Estate.

Chief Justice observed Marble factories on Warsak Road creating environmental pollution especially polluting water which caused diseases in the premises. Deputy Director EPA informed that Marble City has been established in Mohmand while several factories had shifted and shifting other factories are continued.

PHC’s divisional bench comprised of Chief Justice Musart Hilali and Justice Waqar Ahmad observed that concerned department should take concrete steps for controlling pollution while ordered to submit progress report till 29th June.
