Portland Timbers name Neville as head coach

LONDON (Reuters): Major League Soccer (MLS) side Portland Timbers named former Manchester United full back Phil Neville as head coach on Monday.

Neville, who joined the Canada national team’s coaching staff after leaving Inter Miami in June, had signed on until the end of the 2026 season, the Timbers said in a news release.

The 2015 MLS Cup winners parted ways with Giovanni Savarese in August, ending his five-and-a-half year tenure as head coach.

Assistant coach Miles Joseph served as interim head coach until Neville’s appointment.

Neville, who won six Premier League titles as a player with Manchester United and was part of their 1999 treble-winning side, was the England women’s head coach before joining Miami.
