In a sharp reaction to the arrest of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani by NAB on the charges of possessing assets beyond means, PPP Co-chairperson and former President Asif Zardari has threatened to bring down the government and hinted for agitation with the support of other opposition parties.
He said, “We gave enough time to what he called an immature government and would not give more time now. If JUI (F) Central Amir Maulana Fazalu Rehaman takes a step forward we will be with him.”JUI has already gone in agitation mode and has held two protest marches in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, one each in DI Khan and Chsarsadda. Maulana Fazlu Rehman has also announced million march to be held in the federal capital Islamabad. However, it remains to be seen as to whether PML-N leadership backs PPP aggressive stance or not.
Opposition members protested against the arrest of Sindh assembly Speaker and National assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar adjourned the session abruptly. As the session began, senior PPP leader Syed Khuursheed Shah to the floor made a fiery speech and termed the arrest of Agha Siraj Durrani an act against democracy.
Of late the leaderships of PPP and ANP have done lobbying campaign in the United States against the PTI government. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had spent a few days in Washington in the hope to be treated like his mother Benazir Bhutto by the US administration officials and congressmen. He is now in London wherefrom he issued a statement accusing the government of continuing media trial of PPP leaders. Awami National Party (ANP) central President Asfandiyar Wali has returned after a few rounds of shuttle between Washington and New York.
Transparency and rule of law are the basic fundamentals of true democracy and the opposition politicians who fear NAB reference can get legal remedy form law courts. It does not provide any justification for protests on roads and in the streets. The review petitions of Asif Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and Abdul Ghani Majeed of Omni group in case of fake bank accounts for money have been dismissed by the Supreme Court and they should now face the law instead of going fore confrontation against the government which has been mandated by the people for five years term. The era of successful lobbying in the capitals of western countries for coning to power has come to an end.
