PPP urges ECP to promptly declare election date

KARACHI (NNI): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Sharjeel Memon on Thursday urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the election date immediately. Expressing his thoughts in Karachi, Mr Memon reiterated: “There is a dire need to hold elections quickly to ensure transparency.”
He underscored the contributions made by the PPP in the country’s political scenario. “None of the parties has made sacrifices like the PPP. The PPP has made great sacrifices to uphold democracy”. Recalling the events that transpired on May 9, Mr Memon said, “May 9 event is the blackest chapter of the country’s history.” Mr Memon took a swipe at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying, “The selective people were deliberately subjected to the political vendetta by the PTI.” “The PTI had harmed the country on all grounds,” he added.
On the auspicious occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi, Mr Memon felicitated the nation. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro demanded on Wendesday the announcement of the election date. Expressing his thoughts, Mr Khuhro said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced that general elections cannot take place within 90 days. Mr Khuhro had indicated that the electoral watchdog had revealed the initial constituency delimitation on September 27. He had expressed disappointment over the delay in announcing the election date. He was of the view that it is not appropriate the way the masses are facing delays in the announcement of the election date.
Mr Khuhro said: “The ECP had indicated that development projects will commence in Sindh after August 15”. “There were no restrictions on development projects in Punjab, whereas restrictions exist in Sindh,” Mr Khuhro rued.
