PPP’s Kundi asks Maulana Fazl to stop making democracy ‘scapegoat’

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Emphasizing that the politics of confrontation would weaken democracy in the country, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faisal Karim Kundi said on Wednesday that if people had rejected the JUI-F in the recently held general elections, its chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman should not take its revenge on the country’s democracy through his statements.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said that Maulana’s recent statement was an insult to the masses. “The JUI-F chief should now name those people who, as per his statement, were involved in the sale and purchase of assemblies,” Kundi demanded.

He further said that if Maulana thought that the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had been rigged, then he should bear in mind that it was the PTI, which was the beneficiary of that rigging.

The PPP leader said that despite the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had ordered that oath should be administered to members of the KP Assembly who had reached the assembly on reserved seats, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur did not allow the speaker to administer the oath to these members. “Truth of the matter is that the provincial chief minister wants the speaker to do things which are against the constitution,” Kundi said, adding, “Gandapur should bear in mind that the reserved seats are not any party’s property. The chief minister should instead focus on the betterment and welfare of people of the province.”

Gandapur had managed to become the KP CM, Kundi said, but he had still to read the constitution.

PPP leader said that the PTI should now understand that it would not get reserved seats until and unless the assembly members were administered the oath.

He was of the view that now even the people of KP had shown their distrust in the PTI in the by-elections held three days ago.

Kundi said that despite the fact that courts gave verdicts against the PPP, the party accepted them gleefully.
