PRCS to plant 100m saplings in tribal areas

MOHMAND: Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Merged Areas Headquarter, Asif Khan Mehsud on his maiden visit to Mohmand district has said that 100 million saplings would be planted with the help of volunteers within coming three years in tribal districts.

In this a connection, a function was held at the Deputy Commissioner Office Ghalanai where Chairman PRCS Merged Areas Headquarter, Asif Khan Mehsud, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Saiful Islam, planted saplings at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. Secretary Merged Areas Saeed Kamal, Amjed Sohail and others were also in attendance.

Talking to media persons, Asif Khan Mehsud said the PRCS will plant 100 million saplings across tribal areas in coming three years with the support of volunteers. He informed the organization has more than 7,000 volunteers across tribal areas who will voluntarily take part in plantation drives.

He asked volunteers and other people to plant more trees in tribal districts because it was essential for curbing pollution and mitigating flood damage. He also appealed to students, elders and Ulema to help the PRCS and forest department in curbing illegal cutting of trees in the area.

Chairman Merged Areas said that tribal areas have been badly hit during militancy in last 15 years which caused damaging government structures including education and health. He added that they have requested district administration to identify two sites where PRCS can start health facilities to provide free medical assistance to people.

About the health centers, he informed the organization has made functional four basic health centers (BHUs) two each in Khyber and Kurram tribal districts. In last one month, round about 16,000 patients among them children and females have been treated, he mentioned.

ADC Syed Saiful Islam, applauded PRCS for its commendable efforts to help vulnerable community and saying the district administration has a good coordination with the organization and will continue in future. He assured that district administration will fully patronize PRCS in identification of sites for health centers in the area.

Later, Chairman Merged Areas along with District Education Officer Jaddi Khan Khalil  distributed school safety kits under School Safety Program among 22 schools including 11 each for boys and girls of Mohmand tribal district. He said the school safety kits will enable students and teachers to face emergency situation in schools by using this kit.

It is to be mentioned here that it was the first ever visit of the Chairman of PRCS Merged Areas to Mohmand tribal district in last 13-years.
