PESHAWAR: President Dr Arif Alvi has declined to comment on Imran Khan’s controversial remarks regarding the appointment of a new Army chief saying that the latter must explain himself what he meant by his statement.

Talking to journalists at Governor’s House in Peshawar on Monday, the president who also belongs to Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party said that the entire Army including Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa were patriotic and there was no doubt about their patriotism.

“I do not want to make any comment on Imran Khan’s remarks. He should explain his remarks himself. I do not want to create any confusion,” President Alvi asserted.

He said that he was trying to bring everyone to the same table adding that he was quite optimistic that he would succeed in his effort.

“Me and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif quite often hold meetings. If there is no contact, there is also no distance,” President Alvi maintained.

He said if there was transparency, the air of distrust among provinces would be dissipated.

Acknowledging the importance of IMF deal, the president held that ‘Pakistan has come out of economic pressure as now other institutes will also help us’. He prayed for the decrease in ever-increasing inflation in the country.

Dr Alvi said that we should not give importance to social media. He said social media was like an animal that could not be regulated. “We must take care what we utter,” the president cautioned.

He condemned the practice of telephone bugging. However, he said that though it’s a dangerous thing but this practice was common all over the world.

On electronic voting, the president said that he was a supporter of e-voting and he did a lot of work in this regard.
