President confer medals on national cricket team athletes

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani conferred State Medals on athletes of the national cricket team for their recent achievements on national and international level.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said the Maiwand Fateh Ghazi Ayoub Khan State Medals were conferred on the national cricket athletes besides they were awarded cash prizes during a ceremony on Tuesday evening.

He offered a special gratitude to the national cricket team athletes for representing the country in a good manner.

President Ghani said the national cricket athletes are the real ambassadors of the country as he emphasized that the cricket athletes have represented a positive picture of the country as previously only pictures of death and war were presented to the world.

The President also added that the cricket athletes are an example for the others as he expressed confidence that the other youths would also follow the footsteps of the athletes.

Congratulating the national team for their qualification to the 2019 World Cup, President Ghani said the cricket athletes have shown Afghanistan’s discipline on international level, emphasizing that the Afghan athletes have shown to the world that the Afghans are committed to honesty and discipline as per the international laws.

He said the Afghan nation is thankful to cricket athletes for hoisting the national flag on international level.

President Ghani also added that the cricket athletes are independent and professional as he emphasized that there is no place for the politics in sports.

At last he promised that all issues related to cricket sports will be resolved including the difficulties being faced due to land issues.
