President Ghani says facing shameless, brutal enemy
KABUL: Afghan President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani said they were facing such a shameless and brutal enemy which does not pay respect to any human and Islamic values.
He said this while addressing a ceremony held for introducing new acting defence and interior ministers on Tuesday (December 25).
Talking of the coordinated suicide attack in Kabul, the president said the incident showed that they were facing such a brazen and spiteful enemy which does not pay respect to any human and Islamic values. The enemy’s only goal is killing and conducting suicide attacks, the president added.
Condemning the attack, President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani offered condolence to the bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured people.
“By such crimes and dreads, you cannot change our determination of going towards an independent and developed Afghanistan. The determination and intention of the nation further strengthen in the war on terror after such crimes,” he said.
The president called on Taliban that they could not get rid by condemning the attack and parting themselves from the incident even if they were not directly involved in the attack. However, they have paved way for others to conduct such attacks, the president observed.
About peace, he said since its inception the National Unity Government had adopted a transparent and clear stance for the restoration of peace to the country. The government has shared its practical plan for the restoration of peace with the nation and international community, he added.
The entire country had consensus on the practical plan for peace, he said, adding that they were hopeful for durable and respectable peace. He vowed to continue efforts till the goal is accomplished.
Hoping for the restoration of peace, he said if God is willing, peace would be restored in Afghanistan. After the restoration of peace, he said the responsibilities of the security and defence forces would further increase. Every Afghan citizen believing in peace should be satisfied that the security and defence forces would defend their lives and properties with professional behaviour.
Reaching to the destination of peace was a complicated process, he said, adding that they observed the complication in the conference held in Abu Dhabi. He, however, added that they would keep putting efforts to reach the goal of peace despite these complications and challenges.
Stressing on coordination during military operations, he said the army should be alert, police should maintain stability and National Directorate of Security should analyse threats and stop their occurrence. The new defence and interior ministers would guarantee the independence of voters and participation and security of Afghanistan.
Felicitating the new ministers, the president assured them of coordination in their respective institutes.
Addressing the ceremony, advisor on cultural affairs to the presidential office Asadullah Ghazanfar read out the presidential decrees for the appointment of Asadullah Khalid and Amarullah Saleh as acting defence and interior ministers respectively. (AIP)
