ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has increased the prices of 146 life-saving medicines and its notification has also been issued, on Wednesday.

As per the notification, the prices of cancer, vaccine and antibiotic medicines have been increased.

Earlier, the Drug Regulatory Authority had sent a summary to the government for increasing the prices of 262 medicines.

In this regard, officials say that the government increased the prices of 146 life-saving drugs included in the sent list while the prices of 116 drugs included in the list will be increased by the pharmaceutical companies themselves.

Officials said that the government will now control the prices of only 464 medicines included in the National Essential Medicines list.

The government had deregulated drug prices yesterday, allowing pharmaceutical companies to raise prices on their own.
