Protest Erupts in Farah as Taliban Faces Accountability Calls

FP Report

FARAH: In the wake of a tragic incident where Taliban forces shot and killed several innocent civilians in the Balabloak district of Farah province, civilians have taken to barricading a key highway in a powerful display of collective outrage and frustration. Demanding accountability, protesters are calling for the dismissal of both the Taliban district governor and provincial governor, citing a growing disillusionment with the lack of rule of law and rampant arbitrary actions under Taliban rule. The pervasive sense of discontent stems from the perception that mid to low-level Taliban members are exerting unchecked authority, further eroding trust in the very authorities entrusted with maintaining order and security.

Meanwhile, in a stark illustration of intelligence and security shortcomings, an attacker managed to infiltrate a shopping plaza in Kandahar city, which also housed a branch of Kabul bank. Shockingly, the attacker had been residing in residential apartments within the plaza for weeks, undetected by Taliban security forces stationed nearby. This brazen breach of security, occurring just across from a Taliban police station and frequented by Taliban commanders and soldiers, underscores the alarming vulnerability within the Taliban’s own ranks and infrastructure, raising questions about their ability to effectively govern and protect the populace.
