PSL-3: Zalmi eliminate Gladiators by one run in a thriller

LAHORE: Defending champions Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by one run in a nail-biting last ball thriller at Qaddafi Stadium Lahore on Tuesday.

Peshawar qualified for the second eliminator against Karachi Kings which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.

Peshawar Zalmi scored 157 in the 20 overs after all rounder Liam Dawson scoring 62 runs in 35 balls.

Quetta won the toss and invited Zalmi to bat first, the inform Kamran Akmal and Tamim Iqbal were not able to put some score on the board but later Liam Dawson played match winning inning after a wobbling start.

Rahat Ali took 4 wickets for Gladiators and bowled superbly against Zalmi.

In reply Quetta start was also not very good but in the middle Sarfaraz Ahmed and Muhammad Nawaz played some good shots and makes the target under control but they fell down in one over

Quetta needed 25 in the last over. In a dramatic turn of events, all-rounder Anwar Ali smashed three sixes and one four to alter the 158-run chase to three runs off one ball.

But a run-out on the last delivery saw Peshawar Zalmi knocking Quetta Gladiators out of the tournament.

Peshawar will now take on Karachi Kings in the second eliminator in Lahore on Wednesday and the winner of that match will face Islamabad United in the final in Karachi on Sunday.
