KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Syed Mustafa Kamal on Friday said the government should not be worried about the resignation of a federal minister belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) as the party will not leave the ruling coalition.
“The MQM-P will not leave the government,” Kamal told reporters in Karachi on Friday afternoon. “These people [MQM-P] are all actors, and this drama with the people of Karachi must end,” he said.
Commenting on the resignation of MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui from the government, Kamal said that it was a drama.
“The corruption of the party is tied to their stint in power. Files against these people have already been prepared and as soon as they leave the government, they will be arrested,” Kamal predicted.
Last week, MQM-P leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui had addressed a press conference flanked by party members to announce his resignation from the federal cabinet.
Siddiqui had said that the party had supported the government in the most difficult of times, but 18 months had elapsed since the government came into power, and the demands of the MQM-P still stood unresolved.
However, Kamal dismissed the remarks of the former minister. “This is all an internal fight between the MQM-P. The deputy convener of the part, Amir Khan, in a power tussle with the former minister,” he alleged.
Expressing amusement at the fact that another member of the party, Farogh Naseem, was still a minister, Kamal said that the convener of the party did not hold the authority to ask Naseem to resign from the federal ministry.
Kamal also questioned the presence of the Mayor of Karachi and Mayor of Hyderabad in their offices, saying that if the resignations had been sincere, these two offices would be empty by now.
“These people know that this is their last stint in power and want to make as much money as possible this time,” maintained Kamal. He also said that the MQM-P workers were not doing the right thing by rejecting the leadership of Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
