PSQCA banned 313 items in 2017

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) banned 313 units of various items from January, to December, 2017, after carrying out inspection of various units as well as open market surveillance.

Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) is not authorized to penalize the manufacturers / units for non compliance. However, Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) as per Conformity Assessment Rules-2011 rules can seize the units which do not conform to the standards, official sources said.

PSQCA also refers cases of manufacturers /units to first class magistrate for penalization, Cases against units showing non-compliance were filed in the relevant Courts of Law, they told APP.

PSQCA Act, 1996 prescribes the applicable penalty / fine in its various sections, they informed adding, the authority has also proposed amendments in its Act for enhancement of penalties which are under process for approval from the cabinet and parliament.
