PSX continued with bearish trend, loses 489 points

ISLAMABAD (APP): The KSE 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued with bearish trend on Tuesday, losing 489.93 points, with a negative change of 1.15 percent, closing at 41,950.32 points against 42,440.25 points on the last working day.
A total of 169,707,409 shares were traded during the day compared to the trade of 118,986,341 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs5.462 billion against Rs3.576 billion on last trading day. As many as 318 companies transacted shares in the stock market, 94 of them recorded gain and 208 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 16 companies remained unchanged.
The three top trading companies were Pak Refinery with a volume of 15,739,555 shares and price per share of Rs15.74, Silk Bank Ltd with volume of 14,667,500 and price per share of Rs1.39 and TLP Properties with volume of 10,602,726 and price per share of Rs15.49. Sapphire Tex witnessed a maximum increase of Rs34.15 per share, closing at Rs1,038.70 whereas the runner up was Gatron Ind, the share prices of which climbed up by Rs27.99 to Rs434.99.
Rafhan Maize witnessed maximum decrease of Rs100 closing at Rs9,800 followed by Sanofi-Aventis, the share price of which declined by Rs49.79 to close at Rs800.21.
Rupee sheds 48 paisas against dollar
Exchange rate of Pak Rupee weakened by 48 paisas against the US Dollar in the interbank trading on Tuesday and closed at Rs201.41 against the previous day’s closing of Rs200.93.
According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of dollar in the open market were recorded at Rs200.00 and Rs201.5 respectively.
The price of Euro was appreciated by Rs3.03 and closed at Rs216.09 against the previous day’s closing of Rs213.06.
The Japanese Yen gained one paisa to close at Rs1.58, whereas an increase of 79 paisas was witnessed in the exchange rate of British Pound, which was traded at Rs253.39 as compared to its last closing of Rs252.60.
The exchange rates of Emirates Dirham and Saudi Riyal increased by 13 paisas to close at Rs54.83 and Rs53.69 respectively.
Gold prices up by Rs.1950 to Rs.143,600 per tola
The price of 24 karat per tola gold witnessed an increase of Rs.1950 and was sold at Rs.143,600 on Tuesday against its sale at Rs.141,650 in the local market.
The price of 10 gram 24 karat gold also increased by Rs.1672 and was sold at Rs.123,114 compared to its sale at Rs. 121,442;whereas that of 22 karat gold also went up to Rs.112,854 against Rs.111,322, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained unchanged at Rs.1590 and Rs.1363.16 respectively.
