PSX loses 518 points to close at 42,237 points

ISLAMABAD (APP): The KSE 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bearish trend on Thursday, losing 518.13 points, with a negative change of 1.21percent, closing at 42,237.91 points against 42,756.04 points on the last working day.
A total of 157,004,355 shares were traded during the day compared to the trade of 194,398,097 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs.5.286 billion against Rs.5.349 billion on last trading day.
As many as 345 companies transacted shares in the stock market, 75 of them recorded gain and 254 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 16 companies remained unchanged.
The three top trading companies were Pak Refinery with a volume of 14,990,615 shares and price per share of Rs.17.95, Unity Foods Limited with volume of 10,966,534 and price per share of Rs21.86 and Cnergyico Pk with volume of 9,870,697 and price per share of Rs.5.4.
Sapphire Tex witnessed a maximum increase of Rs.70 per share, closing at Rs.1,120 whereas the runner up was Sapphire Fiber, the share prices of which climbed up by Rs.35.01 to Rs1,135.
Bata (Pak) witnessed maximum decrease of Rs126.85 closing at Rs1,723 followed by Nestle Pakistan, the share price of which declined by Rs105 to close at Rs.5,675.
Rupee gains 27 paisas against US Dollar
Exchange rate of Pak Rupee strengthened by 27 paisas against the US Dollar in the interbank trading on Thursday and closed at Rs197.59 against the previous day’s closing of Rs197.86.
According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of dollar in the open market were recorded at Rs196.4 and Rs198.5 respectively.
Moreover, the price of Euro depreciated by 86 paisas and closed at Rs211.21 against the previous day’s closing of Rs212.07.
Meanwhile, Japanese Yen remained unchanged to close at Rs1.52, whereas a decrease of Rs1.33 was witnessed in the exchange rate of British Pound, which was being traded at Rs247.67 as compared to its last closing of Rs248.90.
The exchange rates of Emirates Dirham and Saudi Riyal decreased by 07 paisas to close at Rs53.79 and Rs52.68 respectively.
Gold prices up by Rs.1300 to Rs.138,600 per tola
The price of 24 karat per tola gold witnessed an increase of Rs.1300 per tola and was sold at Rs.138,600 on Thursday against its sale at Rs.137,300 the previous day in the local market.
The price of 10 gram 24 karat and 22 karat gold also increased by Rs.1112 and was sold at Rs118,827 as compared to Rs.117,713 whereas that of ten gram gold increased to Rs.108,925 compared to its sale at Rs.107,903, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained stagnant at Rs.1570 and Rs.1,346 respectively.
The price of gold in international market increased by $25 and was traded at $1856 compared to its sale at $1831, the association reported.
