PTI leader urges govt to place names of Nawaz, family on ECL

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Assembly Parliamentary Leader and PTI Karachi General Secretary Khurrum Sher Zaman, MPA demands that federal Interior Ministry should comply with National Accountability Bureau’s request to place Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired Captain Mohammad Safdar on Exit Control List (ECL).

Mr. Sher Zaman believes this is a test for the federal Interior Minister and PMLN Government to show if they truly believe in the rule of law and co-operation among state institutions.

“The decision by federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal will show to the public if he and the government genuinely believe in the rule of law and places Nawaz Sharif and family on the ECL or display his partisan colors and loyalty to a corrupt and disqualified person and not act on NAB’s request.”

In a democracy, the government must act above partisan and personal loyalties and serve the state and its people.

PTI Sindh Parliamentary Leader also urged NAB to pursue the travel ban on Nawaz and his daughter and son-in-law in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the instance that the Interior Ministry refuses to act on its request. “If NAB does not seriously pursue this matter and exercise all its powers under the law then NAB Chairman’s integrity will receive a major blow in the eyes of the public.

It will be seen that there are two legal systems, one for the common person and one for the rich and powerful, who can escape accountability and punishment.” Mr. Sher Zaman blasted Nawaz Sharif’s Tehreek-e-Adl as nonsense and expressed disbelief that someone who has been Prime Minister three times did not care to introduce judicial reforms until now when Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualifies him from politics.
