PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Mishal Yousafzai has become Senator on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seat by obtaining 86 votes on Thursday.
Senate seat had govt vacant after PTI’s Sania Nishtar had resigned from her seat citing personal reasons.
Mishal Yousafzai’s closest rival, Mehtab Zafar, secured 53 votes, while Saima Khalid received just one vote.
The Election Commission earlier reported that out of 145 provincial assembly members, 143 cast their votes. Opposition member Sardar Shah Jehan Yousaf missed the vote due to being abroad, and government MPA Ashfaq Ahmed was also absent.
Mishal Yousafzai has thanked PTI founder Imran Khan and CM Gandapur for reposing confidence on her and for awarding party ticket.
