LAHORE (NNI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has moved a resolution in Punjab Assembly on Tuesday which hails Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict to bring Model Town incident report to light.
The resolution was put forth by opposition leader belonging to PTI Mehmoodur Rasheed demanding chief minister Shehbaz Sharif to tender his resignation.
PTI has demanded the provincial government to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe Model Town incident and that all those who occupied key posts at the time resign.
The resolution demands off the government to form a JIT like the one that was tasked to probe assets of the former first family of Pakistan, findings of which led to disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as prime minister of Pakistan.
The development has come in today after a three-member bench of the high court headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh rejected Punjab government’s petition and upheld the decision to make the Model Town judicial inquiry report public.
The court dismissed three appeals filed by the Punjab government against the release and ordered to public the report of Justice Baqir Najafi Commission within 30 days.
On June 17, 2014 a clash between workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Punjab Police in Model Town claimed lives of at least 14 persons including police.
A police unit moved towards Minhajul Quran and residence of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri to remove barriers placed in the way by workers of the political front despite court s order against it.
