F.P. Report
LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority has imposed taxes amounting to Rs21 billion on the Orange Line Metro Train project.
According to details, the Punjab Mass Transit Authority has issued a show cause notice for payment of Rs12.9 billion sales tax on the metro project, while the Lahore Development Authority has also issued a show cause notice for Rs7.2 billion payment of sales tax.
The Punjab Revenue Authority said both the departments have been given 10 days to submit their replies. A tax fine of Rs21 billion would be imposed on the Orange Line project if they fail to submit a satisfactory response to the show cause notice.
The Orange Line Metro Train project, which was started during the tenure of former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, is slated to be completed by June-July of this year.
Provincial Minister of Punjab for Local Government Aleem Khan had confirmed the timeline earlier this year, while denying rumours that the PTI government intended to scrap the project.
He had said that Rs120 billion would be annually spent on the Orange Line project during the next five years.
