Putting corona in ‘dam care list’
The spike in in coronavirus infections and consequent increase in mortality rate of patients have compelled the government to declare wearing masks and gloves mandatory at crowded places, markets, shopping malls, public transport and air travel. However, people have so far not shown seriousness to observe the SOPs that federal and provincial governments have announced and emphasised over and over. According to the special Assistant to the Prime Minister on health services, Dr. Zafar Mirza rate of local transmission has gone up to 92 percent. Earlier, it was 78 percent.
The number of doctors and paramedical staff who sacrificed their lives in the combat against Covid-19 has risen to 21. Pakistan Doctors’ Association has issued repeated warning against the relaxation in lockdown, which should have been imposed in complete when reported infections were on the rise. The medical fraternity has expressed the fear of collapse of healthcare system if government shows reluctance to ensure compliance of the SOPs that are essential for containing the pandemic. If people demonstrate an oblivious attitude and are adamant to violate health protocol then it for the government to resort to strict administrative and punitive measure for its observance.
