Putting hope in every swing: 7th Engro LRBT Golf Tournament

Karachi: The Layton Rehmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) successfully organized the 7th Engro LRBT Golf Tournament on January 14th, 2024, at the prestigious Karachi Golf Club. The event aimed to raise funds to support LRBT’s mission of providing free eye treatment to the underprivileged, ensuring that no man, woman, or child goes blind because they cannot afford the treatment.

Mr. Khawaja Iqbal Hassan, Director on the Board of Engro Corporation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding to the prestige of the tournament. The event saw participation from 36 teams comprising professionals from financial institutions, corporates, media, and business houses. These enthusiastic participants not only showcased their golfing prowess, but also contributed significantly to LRBT’s noble cause.

The LRBT Golf Tournament has become an annual tradition, being held consecutively for the past 7 years. The primary goal is to generate funds that enable LRBT to continue providing free eye treatment across its network of 19 hospitals and 56 primary eye care clinics, reaching the most marginalized segments of the population nationwide.

During the closing ceremony, Mr. Najmus Saquib Hameed T.I., Honorary Chairman of LRBT, expressed his gratitude to all the participants for their generous donations and active participation, which contributed to the success of the event. He emphasized that the proceeds collected through the tournament would directly support LRBT’s mission and enable the restoration of sight for 4000 underprivileged patients, empowering them to become contributing members of society.

Mr. Khawaja Iqbal Hassan, Director on the Board of Engro Corp, also addressed the gathering during the closing ceremony. He spoke about the importance of corporate social responsibility and how events like the LRBT Golf Tournament play a crucial role in making a positive impact on the community. Mr. Hassan actively participated in distributing prizes among the winners of the tournament.

The winning team of the 7th Engro LRBT Golf Tournament was led by Mr. Anis Ahmed, CEO of Abbott Laboratories Pvt. Limited. The runner-up team was the Dubai Islamic Bank team, showcasing the competitive spirit and camaraderie that characterized the entire tournament.

LRBT expresses its sincere appreciation to all participants, sponsors, and supporters, who made the 7th Engro LRBT Golf Tournament a resounding success. The funds raised will undoubtedly contribute to the organization’s ongoing efforts to eradicate preventable blindness from our society.
