Qatari prince holds separate meetings with Nawaz, Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore

LAHORE (NNI): Qatari Prince Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani held separate meetings with ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the former’s Jati Umra residence at Raiwind on Wednesday.

The prince alongwith a 13-member delegation landed at Lahore airport where he was greeted by Nawaz Sharif. Al-Thani, who was prime minister of Qatar from 2007 to 2013, was driven to the Jati Umra residence amid tight security.

On the orders of federal government, the dignitaries were given an official protocol and taken to Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Jati Umra from Lahore airport’s Hajj terminal.

Qatari Prince held talks with the Sharif brothers over bilateral matters and other significant issues of mutual interest. Former senator Saifur Rehman was also present in the meeting with Nawaz Sharif.

Speaking on the occasion, the Qatari prince said that investment in Pakistan is the expression of confidence over the PML-N government.

The former premier hosted a luncheon for the Qatari prince and delegation. The guests later departed for Karachi where Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani will attend the inaugaration ceremony of Port Qasim Coal Power Plant.

Al-Thani then headed to Karachi to inaugurate a coal based power plant at Port Qasim along with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The Sharif brothers have friendly terms with the former Qatari premier, who had came to their rescue and submitted a letter to the top court in the Panama Papers case.

The letter addressing the apex court stated that in 1980, Mian Muhammad Sharif (Nawaz Sharif’s father) invested 12 million Dirhams in the Al Thani company belonging to the Qatari prince’s father.

“In the year 2006, the accounts in relation to the above investment were settled between Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Al Thani family, who then delivered the bearer shares of the companies referred in para 4 above to a representative of Hussain Nawaz Sharif,” the letter read.
