Rabbani, Aitzaz may not contest next senate election

ISLAMABAD: As many as 19 senators of PPP would be retired in March 2018, however an interesting situation has emerged in party as top pillars of party including Mian Raza Rabbani and Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan have announced not to contest in next senate election.

The credible sources disclosed “Online” that both Mina Rana Rabbani and Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan have informed the party leadership regarding their decision of not taking part in next senate election.

However, sources said that PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would again request Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan and convince him to contest next senate election.

He will hold meeting with Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan in next few days.

The next Senate Elections will be held in March 2018, and PML-N is poised to emerge as a single majority party in the Senate.  In March 2018, 52 senators will retire of which 19 belong to PPP, eight to PML-N, four each to MQM, PML-Q, five

At present, PPP enjoys the top position with 27 senators, but after retirement of 18 senators and by winning 8 seats in the forthcoming senate elections, it would have total of 16 seats and would be second largest party in the Senate.

However, if situation otherwise the PML-N could be emerged a single leading party in senate election.

It is interesting to note that the election for the 52 senators will be held in March 2018 while the tenure of the present government is till June 2018.
