Rain-induced floods inflict huge financial losses

PARON (Pajhwok): Flash floods triggered by heavy rains have caused huge financial losses to the people in Nuristan province.
Malem Mohammad Rasoul, a resident of Mandul district, told Pajhwok Afghan News rain-induced flash floods hit some parts of the district and the people suffered financial losses.
According to him, the floods destroyed agricultural land, houses and bridges.
He said the floods also swept away some animals of the people and damaged the road from Gamta up to Koraj.
Maulvi Qiyamuddin Janbaz, director of natural disaster management authority, said that initial information suggested that the floods swept away 100 sheep, four cars and damaged 12 shops and a health center in Koraj area.
According to Janbaz, two bridges, several small mills and hundreds of acres of farmland and gardens were also damaged by the flood. There was no report of causalities yet, Janbaz added. The signal of telecommunication was also lost in the area.
