LAKKI MARWAT: The recent spell of rain coupled with cold wind increased coldness bringing a positive message for the farmers of rain fed areas of the district. The southern district received light rain which started on Sunday night and continued till Monday night, forcing the many people to remain indoors. The district had not received rain for the last couple of months which caused drought like situation and also increased worries of farmer community.

The wheat and gram crops sown in lower Marwat area are rain dependent and if it rains on time the farmers get good crops and enhanced yield. A group of local farmers told journalists that recent rains would put positive impact on wheat and gram crops in sandy area. They said that the crops were on verge of disaster due to lacking of rains for the last couple of months. But recent spell of rain will help wheat and gram crops to grow and reach the stage/phase of maturity”, they maintained. They said that rains would also help to bring an end to crop diseases and enable growers to get increased produce.

People also enjoyed fast foods on rainy day in Lakki city bazaars. A rush of eaters was seen in the outlets of Samosa, Pikoray, pulao, kabab and roasted fish and chicken sellers. Many residents especially traders, students and government employees also enjoyed locally cooked/prepared halwa (confectionary) with cup of tea.

However, the attendance of students remained thin in government run and private educational institutions. Teachers posted in remote areas could not reach schools in time. The public transport vehicles also started to become thin on roads as drivers parked their vehicles after rain started. Rain also disrupted power supply in several urban and rural localities of the district. Frequent electricity fluctuation added to the miseries of citizens in congested Haji Mehmud Street of Mohallah Haqdadabad located at stone throwing distance from the office of SDO Pesco Lakki.

The offices of sub divisional officer and executive engineer of Pesco were approached for rectification of fault in power supply system but to no avail. The mobile phone of the concerned lineman of power Supply Company was off when this correspondent tried to contact him. Power fluctuation continued in the locality till filing of this report.
