All recruitment in HMC on merit: MD

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: The Board and administration of Medical Teaching Institution Act (MTI) Hayatabad Medical Complex-HMC has strongly refuted the impression conveyed in a section of the press regarding non-implementation of certain aspects of the Health Reforms Act.

A press release issued by HMC said that MTI-HMC is leading all other institutions and has successfully introduced changes related to development of infrastructure, up gradation of equipment and hiring of trained manpower in the spirit of the said Act. The recent confusion created by a few individuals with vested interests regarding promotion of faculty members and appointments of departmental chairmen is grossly ill-founded.

Promotion of faculty in cases where vacant slots are not available has been backed by the administration of each and every member of the Board has facilitated swift introduction of this policy. Since this is a new concept therefore an extensive exercise has been undertaken to ensure merit and transparency in all aspects. The Board has already approved the policy and the process of finalizing the list of individuals to be promoted is almost complete.

It will be effective in the very near future. To be true more individuals stand a chance of promotion in MTI-HMC than any other MTI which however will be strictly on merit. As far the appointment of departmental chairperson is concerned, HMC was one of the very first MTIs to appoint Chair of Medical & Allied and Chair of Surgical & Allied almost a year back. The Clinical Executive Board also consists of senior representatives of a number of other departments.

The Medical Director Prof Shehzad Akbar has appealed to members of the print and electronic media committee not to pay head to rumors spread by individuals with ulterior motives and has reassured all concerned that all members of the Board and administration are fully supportive and keen on implementation of every aspect of MTI Reforms Act.
