Reporting for peace, development stressed

BARA: Chairman Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) University of Peshawar (UoP) Dr Faizullah Jan has said that it is binding on the tribal journalist community to be partial while reporting for the peace, education and development of the merged districts.

Addressing on the occasion of concluding day of training session, themed Community Resilience Activity (CRA) North, as a chief guest held here in Bara press club last day he said that before merging, journalism was banned in the former tribal agencies as it was an information black hole.

Due to restriction of publication act to the ex-Federal Administer Tribal Region (Fata) no proper medium of communication was available to convoy miseries of the tribesmen to the world and vice versa, he added. Dr Faizullah Jan said that because of the lack of local communication mediums, the wrong image of the Fata was presented worldwide that afflicted the tribal.

After merging problems of the tribesmen had been effectively highlighted and keeping in view the need, the Journalism department decided to jointly work with the CRA, North for peace, education and development in the merged tribal districts and trained the Bara press club members.

Addressing the local journalists, he maintained that they would further provide training facilities to make them competent to convoy problems of the people to the rulers and the areas to develop. Beside district officer of CRA, North Ijaz Durrani, lecturer Journalism Department Ali Imran, tribal elders and members of the civil society attended the gathering.
