Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that full cooperation will be extended for the establishment of Centre of Excellence for eye related diseases adding that this centre will enhance the capacity of ophthalmologists.
The President said this while talking to a delegation of Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan which led by Prof. Zia ul Islam called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday. Other members of the delegation including General Secretary Dr. Mahfooz Hussain, Prof. Shahid Wahab, Prof. Muhammad Daud Khan, Prof. Muhammad Mazhar Qayyum, Prof. Mazhar Ishaq, Prof. Imtiaz Ali Shah and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
The President stated that necessary legislation will be made in connection with corneal transplant.
He emphasized that research is imperative for quality treatment therefore private sector should be mobilized for the establishment of this Centre. Appreciating the services of Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan, the President said that the Society is playing an important role in increasing the number of ophthalmologists and treating blindness from the country.
He hoped that these efforts will also be continued in future and the Government will extend all possible support to the Society in this regard.
The delegation thanked the President for taking keen interest in the affairs of Society.
