Residents demand shifting of courts

TIMERGARA: The Pakistan Tehrek Insaf MPA from PK 15 Shafiullah Khan, Timergara tehsil nazim Riaz Muhammad and district nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan on Monday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to immediately shift the Bajaur judicial complex set up at Timergara rest house.

The demand was made during a meeting of Timergara tehsil council held here with its convener Asfandiar Khan in the chair. Tehsil nazim Riaz Muhammad and others expressed reservations on the establishment of judicial complex for the erstwhile Bajaur (former Fata Agency) in the building of Timergara rest house.

Speaking on the occasion Riaz Muhammad said the Timergara rest house was the lone facility in Lower Dir district that served as a guest house under the supervision of Timergara municipal administration. He said the government had taken neither district nazim nor he on board while deciding to establish the Bajaur judicial complex at Timergara rest house. He said the people of Bajaur district had also been demanding judicial complex in Bajaur.

The nazim said the Timergara TMA afforded the cost of maintenance, repair, renovation and employees’ salaries for decades. The speakers said that judges were respectable and they were not against them but occupying this building for Bajaur judicial complex was not an appreciable step. Also in the day MPA Shafiullah Khan told local journalists at Timergara that lawmakers from Lower Dir had not been taken into confidence on the matter. “I am part of the government but I haven’t been taken on board,” the PTI lawmaker said, adding the government should establish the Bajaur judicial complex either at Munda or Samar Bagh which lied close to Bajaur instead of Timergara. The MPA said that he along with other lawmakers from Lower Dir would meet the deputy commissioner and would inform him about people grievances. Mr Shafiullah said the Timergara rest house was the only spot for tourists and state guests in the district and the establishment of judicial offices there would pose security threats as well.

The Lower Dir nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan also expressed the same feelings. Talking to local journalists he said that the building of Timergara rest house and its ground was being used for public activities. He said it was a public place and was used by state guests and visiting government officers. He demanded of the government to abandon court proceedings in this building and shift the judicial complex to elsewhere in Bajaur district.

Meanwhile civil courts started its functions for Bajaur district here on Monday. Despite reservations of Timergara TMA and local lawmakers the district and session judge, additional district and session judge and civil judges heard civil cases of petitioners from Bajaur district. The judicial complex for Bajaur has been established in the building of Timergara rest house.
