Residents protest against electricity, gas load shedding

F.P. Report

MARDAN: Residents of different areas took to the street against unscheduled and prolonged load-shedding of electricity and gas.

The protesters, hailing from various parts of the city were led by district nazim Mardan Himayatullah Mayar. They staged protest demonstration at College Chowk and blocked the busiest square for several hours for all kind of traffic which created a big traffic mess in the district.

Participants of the protest demonstration chanted slogans against federal and provincial government as well as WAPDA officials for their failure to permanently solve the issue of prolonged and unscheduled load-shedding of electricity and gas.

Himayatullah Mayar advocate who was also district president of Awami National Party addressed the enraged protesters on the occasion. He urged both the central and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial governments to fulfill their promises which they made during their election campaigns of last general elections -2013 regarding solving the issues of load-shedding of electricity and gas.

He alleged that the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Party Imran khan had promised during last general elections campaign to build 350 dams in KP province but his PTI-led provincial government had failed even to build one dam. He lamented that Imran Khan and his provincial rulers had wasted their last five-years in carrying out protest sit-ins instead of severing people of the province.

He said on one hand, the central government was making claims to become self-sufficient in production of electricity while on other hand, chief minister KP Pervez Khan Khattak and Imran Khan were claiming that they had increased production of electricity in the province, adding, despite of that residents of KP had been facing excessive and unscheduled of electricity.

Mr. Himayatullah Mayar claimed that the ANP last provincial government had started various schemes and projects regarding production of electricity to resolve the issue on permanent bases but the next provincial regime of PTI did not take up those on-going schemes seriously due to which they were still uncompleted.

He threatened that they would besiege house of chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Peshawar if the issue of load-shedding of electricity and gas was not resolved forthwith.

“We will devise next line of action if the PTI provincial government fails to solve the issue of load-shedding of electricity and gas even after besieging the KPK chief minister’s home.” Other key persons also addressed participants of protest demonstration and criticized wrong policies of both the central and provincial governments.
