KABUL (Amu tv): More than 50 Afghan citizens have been executed in Iran so far this year, according to reports from human rights organizations.
Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based monitoring group, said 864 people were put to death in Iran in the first eight months of 2025, including at least 49 Afghans. Two Afghans were executed in the past week, the group said, most on charges related to drugs or murder.
Hengaw, another rights organization, reported an even higher figure, saying 59 Afghans were executed in the same period. Both groups said Afghans account for the largest share of foreign nationals executed in Iran.
Iran Human Rights said the overall number of executions in 2025 has doubled compared with the same period last year. Its report listed 23 women among those executed, along with one Iraqi, one foreign national of unspecified origin, and seven people killed in public hangings. Nine people were executed on charges of spying for Israel, it said.
Earlier this year, a Taliban judicial delegation visited Iran and asked authorities to consider alternatives to capital punishment for Afghan nationals. Iranian officials, however, have continued carrying out executions.
