RMI MCL-2: Pakhtuns, Kings book place in quarter finals

PESHAWAR: PPC Pakhtuns and PPC Kings qualified for the next round after winning their matches in the second edition of RMI Media Cricket League on Saturday. The tournament which is being played at Government Shaheed Hasnain Sharif Higher Secondary School No. 1 for the second year in a row is organized by Peshawar Press Club and sponsored by Rehman Medical Institute. Other sponsors of the tournament include Top Up Mineral water, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Warden Police and Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the first match of the day PPC Pakhtuns outclassed PPC Turyali by 107 runs. Batting first Pakhtuns scored 145 runs in alloted 10 overs which is also the highest total of the tournament so far. Irfan Khan scored brilliant 59 runs while Sabbir Jan (39) and Fayaz (32) were the other top scorers. In reply, Toryali were all out for just 39 runs. Fayaz was the star bowler with five wickets haul in the match and was also named Man of the Match. District Nazim Safdar Baghi was the chief guest on the occasion. He gave away Rs1000 to Fayaz on behalf of Top Up Mineral Water for this all round performance.

In the second match of the day, PPC Kings defeated PPC United by 7 wickets. Batting first United scored a meager 56 runs in 10 overs. Hayat scored 11 runs. In reply thanks to quickfire 32 runs by Zafar Kings reached the target in the sixth over. Zafar hit two sixes and four boundaries. Awami National Party leader Syed Aqil Shah was the chief guest on the occasion. Kings bowler Usman Danish was named Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling. He took three wickets.

Sunday will be the rest day in the tournament while on Monday PPC Qabails will face PPC Qalandars. Both the teams will vie for the top spot of the group. In the other match on Monday, PPC Jaguars will meet PPC Markhor.
