RMI MCL: Qabails boost chance to qualify for q-final, Tigers also wins

PESHAWAR: PPC Qabails and PPC Tigers won their respective matches comprehensively on Wednesday as Qabails strengthen their position for the quarter-final spot of the second RMI Media Cricket League.

In the first match of the day PPC Tigers outplayed PPC Jaguars by seven wickets. Batting first Jaguars could score only 48 runs as they failed to play all 10 overs and were bowled out in the eighth over. From Tigers Saad bin Owais and Zeeshan bowled superb spells taking two wickets each and gave no chance to Jaguars batting line up to play their shots freely. Sajjad Haider took one wicket.

In response PPC Tigers reached the target in seventh over of the match. Saad also shined with the bat and scored unbeaten 18 runs while Zeeshan Liaqat scored 17 runs. Saad for his all-round performance was named man of the match.

In the other match of the day, PPC Qabails almost booked their place in the quarter finals of the tournament after pulverizing PPC Gladiators by nine wickets in a one-sided affair.

Batting first after winning the toss, Gladiators failed to put a fighting score on the board as they kept on losing wickets. Qabails bowlers including Irshad, Qari Ziaul Islam, Rizwan, Wasif and Wisal were all among wicket takers.

Irshad bowled one over and took two wickets for just four runs while Qari Zia ul Islam took three wickets. Four batsmen of Gladiators failed to open their account. In response, Qabail changed their batting order for the match and their captain Bilal Afridi and Shah Nawaz opened the innings. Shah Nawaz was the only man out for 18. Bilal finished the match in the sixth over with a six. He remained unbeaten on 22 while Ali Sheikh remained not out with 8 runs.

Today two more matches will be played. In the first match PPC United will face PPC Eagle while in the second match PPC Gladiator will face PPC Pukhtons.

It is worth mentioning here that the second edition of the Media Cricket League is sponsored by Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) while Top Up mineral water, Traffic Wardons Peshawar and DG Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also among the sponsors.
