Roadside bomb kills four in southern Yemen

Murad Erifi

SANAA: Four people were killed in a roadside bomb blast in southern Yemen on Wednesday, according to a local security official.

An explosive device exploded at a passenger vehicle in Snah district in the southern Dhale province, the official said, requesting anony-mity because he was unauthorized to speak to media. He said another three civilians were injured in the attack.

The official said the device exploded shortly after a patrol of the Security Belt forces, which are backed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), passed in the area.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Formed in July 2015, the Security Belt forces are deployed in the coastal city of Aden and neighboring areas. The forces are currently led by Hani Bin Brek, the head of the Southern Interim Council that seeks separation from Yemen.

Two Yemeni ministers tender their resignations: Two high-ranking Yemeni ministers have resigned in the past two days without offering an explanation.

Minister of State Salah al-Sayadi announced his resignation Wednesday, a day after Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service and Insurance Abdulaziz al-Jabari said he was stepping down.

In a statement posted on his personal Facebook account, al-Sayadi said “I declare my definitive resignation from the government for reasons I will explain later”. An official source who wished to remain anonymous said Al-Jabari announced his resignation at a meeting in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh.

The meeting was attended by Yemeni Vice President Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar and Prime Minister Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghar, who tried to convince Al Jabari to change his mind, said the source.

Al-Jabari also announced his resignation on Yemeni television but said he would remain an advisor to President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. (AA)
