Russia calls for reforming UNSC

HO CHI MINH (AA): Russian foreign minister on Monday called for reforming the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking at “International Cooperation in a Troubled World” conference in Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh, Sergey Lavrov said the developing regions are inadequately represented in the decision-making body of the international organization.

“The reform of the UN Security Council is definitely overdue, as it underrepresents the developing regions of the world – Asia, Africa and Latin America.

“Now, up to a third of the UN Security Council is represented by the EU countries. I do not think that the inclusion of the countries of the historical West will add to this structure, the diversity that we want to see there,” Lavrov added.

Turkish President has long advocated reforming the structure of the UN Security Council.
