MOSCOW: Restoring a dialogue and trade exchanges between Moscow and London meets the common interests of both countries and Russia is ready for this, Russian President Putin said at a ceremony of receiving credentials from foreign ambassadors, including from the UK envoy, in the Kremlin on Wednesday.

“The current state of relations between Russia and Great Britain hardly satisfies both sides. We are convinced that restoring a mutually respectful dialogue, strengthening trade and economic exchanges and building up cultural and humanitarian contacts meet common interests. And we are ready for this,” Putin said.

Speaking before the ambassadors who took part in the ceremony of presenting their credentials, Putin pointed to the dynamic development of Russian-Bangladeshi ties, including in trade and in the sphere of the civilian nuclear power. The Russian leader said he hoped for the continued close cooperation of the two countries in the UN and other multilateral organizations.

The Russian president also spoke for developing relations with Panama, improving the contractual and legal framework and strengthening contacts in the economic sphere.

“We are open for cooperation with Canada based on mutual respect and the need to take the interests of each other into account. Our countries are neighbors in the Arctic and bear joint responsibility for the sustainable development of this vast region, for preserving the traditional way of life of the indigenous peoples and for the attentive approach towards its fragile eco-system,” Putin said at the ceremony in the Kremlin.

He said that France was one of Russia’s key international partners, mentioning his constant contacts with French President Emmanuel Macron. Putin added that Moscow and Paris were interacting on the issues of settling the situation in Libya, Syria and generally in the Middle East, and also in Ukraine. Putin recalled the accords reached by the two countries in August 2019 and the start of the joint work on the issues of ensuring stability and security in Europe. The Russian leader also paid attention to the development of economic ties between Russia and France, including in industry and the energy sector.

Speaking about the relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, Putin called them an example of reliable strategic partnership and allied relations.

“We highly value the level of trust and interaction with the leadership of Kazakhstan that has been achieved,” the Russian leader said.

Putin recalled he had held nine meetings with President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev in 2019, adding that he maintained “very close contacts with his good friend Nursultan Nazarbayev [the first president of Kazakhstan].”

As the Russian leader said, “largely thanks to the joint efforts of Russia and Kazakhstan, integration within the EAEU [Eurasian Economic Union] is developing consistently.”

Also, Moscow and Nur-Sultan “are closely coordinating approaches towards the issues of the international agenda,” Putin added. He recalled that Kazakhstan had provided the venue for organizing the Astana negotiating process on settling the situation in Syria. (TASS)
