Russia will not do a nuclear test if US refrains from them, Ryabkov says

MOSCOW (Reuters): Russia will not conduct a nuclear test as long as the United States refrains from them, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency on Monday.

Last week Russian state-run newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta published an interview with Andrei Sinitsyn, head of Russia’s nuclear test site at Novaya Zemlya, saying the site is ready for resumption of full-scale testing.

Ryabkov said that the preparations at Novaya Zemlya were undertaken in response to similar actions by the United States.
